David A. Edwards
CEO Global Solutions, CEO UK & Germany
David has over 40 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s insurance market and formed a new marine broker in 1989 that was amalgamated into London Special Risks (now Edge London) in 1995. He was the sole shareholder of Edge London until 2015 and founder of the Edge Group. He is CEO of the Group’s UK and German operations. David is a fellow of the Royal Society and trustee Chairman of ASPIRE a UK registered charity.
Tom has lived in Singapore for more than 20 years and has more than 30 years of experience from Marine Underwriting, Marine and Energy Insurance Consulting, Shipping, Risk Management, and Insurance Broking. In 2008 Tom started Edge Singapore as MD and Founding Partner. His previous work experience includes 11 years of Underwriting with Gjensidige and Vesta, 7 years with Aon Asia as Regional Marine Director and as Director for the company’s Singapore marine department. Prior to this he was employed with Osprey Maritime Limited, Singapore, as their Risk Manager. Following the acquisition of Osprey by Gotaas-Larsen, London he was promoted to Commercial Manager for the Group based in Singapore. This position included marketing of their LNG activities, Joint Venture negotiations, Sale and Purchase negotiations, and employment contract work for the 30 ships that were owned by the company at that time. He also represented the Company in Intertanko’s Insurance Committee, London.
Tore I. Hellebø
Prior to joining the Edge Group as Director of Corporate Strategy, Tore was employed as Director of Finance and Business Control with Dolphin Group ASA, the Oslo stock-listed geophysical company, where he was responsible for setting up its captive. His work experience includes involvement with Centennial, the private investment firm of the Monaco-based investor Endre Rösjö, and as CEO of Vyke Telecoms Ltd, in London, as Chairman of Sia Centennial Industries in Latvia, as well as evaluating investment opportunities in Europe, Africa and Central-Asia. Tore has an insurance background from the Financial Planning & Analysis department in GE Insurance Solutions (now Swiss Re). He has a Master of Management (MSc/UK), Diplôme Grande École, (FRA), Diplom-Kaufmann (GER) from ESCP Europe (former EAP European School of Management) in Paris, Oxford and Berlin. Tore is also a Finance and Logistics graduate from the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy.
Group Financial Director & Company Secretary
Gunnar is a graduate from the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy and has a background as a Finance Director of stocklisted EDB Ergo Group ASA (now EVRY ASA). He has also been the Finance Director of CSC Nordic focusing on business support, business development and optimization of procedures and processes. He has shipping experience from Westfleet (part of KGJS / Gearbulk Group) where he was Finance and IT manager. Finally he was Finance and IT Manager for Norwegian Law firm Thommessen. Gunnar holds Board positions in several property investment companies.
Tom E. Midttun
Tom has 35 years of marine risk experience from both the underwriting and broking side of the market. His previous experience includes positions as Senior Vice President, Member of the Executive Committee and Head of leading marine insurer Vesta Marine & Energy. Subsequently he was Senior Vice President of merger projects, reinsurance and strategy at Gard. He has been a Chairman of the Norwegian Market organisation CEFOR, a member of Det Norske Veritas’ Council, a member of the Board of claims agency Scandinavian Marine Claims Office, and had a significant role in developing the maritime incident reporting system SAFIR. In 2001 he was a Founding Partner, Managing Director and Chairman of Edge Norway (formerly NorthEdge). He is Deputy Chairman of the Norwegian Brokers’ Association.
Global Head of P&I Practice / CEO Asia
David Alwyn recently joined Edge and has over 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry. Having qualified as a solicitor at Hill Dickinson and working as a Claims Executive for the Standard Club in London, he was posted to Singapore for 7 years as the General Manager/Underwriter and Principal Officer of Standard Asia. During this period of time he was responsible for the establishment of a non-marine mutual called Capricorn Mutual in Australia and New Zealand as well as the management of Unimutual – a mutual established to insure the universities in Australia. Following a period as Chief Operating Officer of Charles Taylor Asia Pacific in Australia, he returned to Europe and joined Wilson Europe in 2007. This career change from underwriter/mutual manager to broker enabled David to focus on the broking side of P&I insurance. He is in the unique position of not only placing shipowners P&I insurance but also placing the reinsurance of P&I Clubs.
David is a qualified solicitor and has an LLB and LLM from University College London.
Global Head of Marine Special Risk Practice
Terje is a Master Mariner from the Maritime College in Tønsberg. In 1980 he graduated from the Royal Naval Academy, Bergen. In 1989 he graduated from the Norwegian Insurance Academy Highest Level, and until 1993 he studied law with Folkeuniversitetet and the University of Oslo. His professional career includes serving as officer in various ranks up to senior operational levels on LPG and LNG carriers with Leif Høegh AS and Bergesen d.y. ASA, officer in the Royal Navy up to the rank as Captain in the Norwegian Coast Guard. 15 years with Bergesen d.y. ASA and Bergesen Worldwide Offshore AS as Assistant Director and Head of Risk Departments . He has also held board positions with Skuld and NHC. Since 2006 he attempted to launch a new Marine Offshore Property and Liability insurer Vega Insurance AS, and subsequently started a Lloyd’s Coverholder agency Vega Insurance Agencies AS, where he was the Managing Director.
Global Head of Financial & Political Risk Practice
Paul is a career specialist in trade credit and political risk having started his broking career in 1984.
With experience gained with some of the most innovative teams in the Market, Paul has developed business on four continents and worked with the broadest possible spectrum of industry and commerce.
Today the Special Risks team Paul leads complements this experience to provide Market leading insurance and re-insurance coverage to a growing global portfolio of Banks, traders, corporates and Export Credit Agencies.
Jörn began his career with an apprenticeship in the H&M department of Allianz, Hamburg before spending two years there as an underwriter. He later joined an underwriting agency in Hamburg to strengthen their H&M underwriting team and after four years he was educated in P&I during his time in Skuld.
Prior to joining Edge in October 2016, Jörn worked for almost 10 years for another broker in Hamburg where he held the position as Head of Marine.
